DJ Esko Routamaa
ESKO ROUTAMAA TOP 10 9/2007
1 Billy Sha-Rae - "Do it"
- Raw shuffle-funk 7" from Spectrum records
2 Julien Covey and The Machine - "A little bit hurt"
- Dancers are allways confused with this tracks intro.
It sounds like The Kinks "You really got me". This is
one of those Mod-dance classics.
3 Magic Sam - "Iīll pay you back"
- DJīs rather favours the flip-sides "Samīs funck", but
this side is for me.
4 Restless soul - "Everytime"
- From Raw fusion label comes this autumn warmer with
fine vocals by lady called Zansika.
5 Alcon Shades - "All is forgiven"
- This one of those Blue rock styrene 7"s. Played only in
those better nights, like FUNK-night in INTRO.
6 A Small change - "Steviano Italiano"
- This is one of those odd-ball mystery releases. Italian
boogaloo with todays hard hitting background.
7 Ben Westbeech with The Dap-Kings - "So good today"
- Just three guitar chords can make nice track a GOOD track.
8 Witch Way - "Clapping song"
- Childish happymood record. A good choice when most of the
songs are sad or mellow.
9 Jesse Anderson - "Mighty mighty"
- Gold-heavy drums and piano played with fists.
10 Frankie Valli - "Begginī"
- This is big hit, I know. But how wonderfully this song is built.
ESKO ROUTAMAA TOP 10 - 10/2006
- Merino Costa - Aquarela
Beautiful Nico Gomez classic, this time galicia style
- Pino Presti - Aghedo osanwonyi
Percussion-heavy Italianafro from ī76
- New York City - Iīm doinī fine now
So catchy, itīs like a bubblegum on your wig
- Opensouls - Rise up (pt.1)
From New Zealand comes this little bit too short gem
of a latinjazz. Brand new.
- Mari Wilson - If thats what you want
Made in UK 1980 !!! And sounds like made in
Detroit 1968. Northern/Motown stomper.
- Johnny Praye - i cherish your precious love
Talking about northern, here you have one
helluva 7" !!! Both sides made in heaven.
- Frances Faye - Night & Day
Itīs latin, no itīs jazz, nono itīs boogaloo...
Itīs just GOOD.
- Alfredito - Guajira con bugaloo
Little Alfred in serious boogaloo business.
- Camille - Ta Douleur
I know i have a softspot with these French
singing ladies. This in new, this is fresh and
little bit different.
- Grant Union - Jane Jane
Jazzy folkfunk from this interesting new group
from UK. Very autumn, very 10".
ESKO ROUTAMAA TOP 10 - 1/2006
· Panoptikum - Black Land of the Nile
I must say that I don't know that much about spiritual jazz, but if Bjarne is Kallis this song must be priceless.
· Peter Herbolzheimer - The Catfish
Catfishsoup, anyone? Sure, as long as I don't have to say the name of the chef.
· Esther Satterfield - Love Music
Seldom seen and heard jazz vocalist, track from 1974.
· Zbigniew Namyslowski & Wlodek Gulgowski - Equinox
70's jazz-electronica Polish/Swedish style.
· Ellen McIlwaine - Higher Ground
Strange and interesting rework of this familiar tune.
· Bugsy - Shoeshine
Nice two minutes with this crossover singer.
· The Charlie Rouse Band - Cinnamon Flower
My favourite version of this nascimento classic.
· Timo Lassy - African Rumble
Ricky-Tick rides again! This time horseman Lassy is at a full gallop.
· The Diplomats of Solid Sound - Don't Touch My Popcorn
This is one of those guitar-organ groovers that you might already be tired with. But hey, listen again. This really is one of the best of those!
· The Greenberets - Just an Ugly Rumour
This pretty 7" soul tune here is a bit hard to find on its Jo-Jo/Uni label. But well worth every euro it may cost you.
